Morisawa introduces UD Digital Kyokasho NPL and UD Gakusan RGothic to a visualcommunication platform “Canva,” followed by a kickoff event on September 7

Today, Morisawa Inc. (President: Akihiko Morisawa; Headquarter: 2-6-25 Shikitsuhigashi, Naniwa-ku, Osaka, Japan; Phone (main): 011-81-6-6649-2151) starts offering two new Japanese fonts (UD Digital Kyokasho NPL and UD Gakusan RGothic) to Canva, and will host a special event to celebrate it on Saturday, September 7, 2024.

Launched in 2013, Canva is an online design and visual communication platform with a mission to empower everyone in the world to design.. Morisawa has been offering fonts on Canva since December 2023. As information and communication technologies (ICT) make their way to the field of education in recent years in Japan, it’s now more important than ever to equip schools with the technology and tools they need to be creative in the classrooms. Recognizing this, Canva introduced Canva for Education in 2019, allowing teachers and students to access all the benefits of Canva’s premium features — from templates to images, fonts, and more, complete with enhanced safety measures, centralized account provisioning, and tool integrations.

To provide more font options, Morisawa adds new Universal Design (UD) fonts that are easy to teach, easy to learn, and can accommodate more people’s educational needs. UD Digital Kyokasho NPL and UD Gakusan RGothic are a lineup of fonts designed to accomplish inclusiveness in education, aid learning environments, and produce creative materials in consideration of disabilities such as low vision or dyslexia. The more font selections they have, the more hurdles they face could be overcome, providing educational professionals better options for legibility and literacy.

〈 About new fonts 〉

— UD Digital Kyokasho NPL —

UD Digital Kyokasho NPL is designed to be friendly for low vision or dyslexia, based on the same concept from the original Japanese font UD Digital Kyokasho. What makes this NPL version different is the integration of UD Digikyo Latin, a Latin typeface compliant with Japan’s MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) guidelines for elementary schooling materials. This combination of two fonts into one set is made available only for Canva.* NPL’s difference from UD Digital Kyokasho offered by MORISAWA BIZ+

* UD Digital Kyokasho NPL has different specifications from UD Digital Kyokasho which is offered by MORISAWA BIZ+.

* UD Digital Kyokasho NPL has different specifications from standard UD Digital Please see details of specifications here: https://support.bizplus.typesquare.com/hc/ja/articles/35173610599577

— UD Gakusan RGothic —

UD Gakusan RGothic is a rounded gothic font developed for textbooks and teaching materials. Since all Japanese characters in this font are compliant with typefaces in MEXT’s curriculum guidelines, along UD Digital Kyokasho, it will be helpful for many students (including children with difficulty in reading and writing) through their learning experiences. Depending on children’s developmental stages or intended use, it can be used with or without other UD fonts (such as UD Digital Kyokasho).
